For state of Virginia, LED fixtures are on the table for consideration by the Commonwealth

Delegate John Bell, Democratic House Representative for Virginia's 87th district recently brought forth a bill to Virginia's House Sub-Committee on General Laws relating to LED lighting for the state.  House Bill 1988 includes provision that "Any authority, department, agency, or institution of the Commonwealth that installs, replaces, or maintains an outdoor lighting fixture, including street lights and area lighting, shall use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) instead of traditional incandescent light bulbs when installing new outdoor lighting fixtures or replacing nonfunctioning light bulbs on existing outdoor lighting fixtures."

The proposed bill made it through the Sub-Committee by a 5-1 vote on January 19th and at last check had been earmarked for consideration by the Appropriations Committee within the House.

SONARAY believes the bill will be good for the citizens, residents, travelers, and visitors to the state since LED lighting will provide cost-effective and safe lighting.  Moreover, LED fixtures will provide the Commonwealth with newer technology that should port well to enhanced infrastructure along the state's highways and outdoor areas.

SONARAY supported Delegate Bell with a letter and was present on the day of the initial Sub-Committee hearing at the capitol in Richmond.
